Heart full of gratitude

Thank you to the families who sent in goodies during Teacher Appreciation Week.

You send me your treasures everyday.  I am grateful for your trust in me.  I am a flawed human and the system by which I am employed is certainly far from perfect.  Together, you and I attempt to be our best for your children.  Some days I am ready to run out of the door and continue to run until I drop out of sheer frustration.  Love for my profession and your children keep me coming back for more.

One sentence summaries

I have utilized one sentence summaries as a strategy to determine understanding in the content areas.  They really assist me in being able to ascertain where I need to tailor a lesson.
Here are some pics of the kids work from last week and this week:

Wants and Needs (Beginning Economics)
You are right Payton, we do need snacks in Kindergarten when lunch is at 1:15!

American Symbols
Thanks Ms. Davies for your help in getting these together!  They look terrific!

Home Stretch

I cannot believe we only have 30 odd days left of school.  The children have grown exponentially physically and academically.  I would ask families that we all hold on tight during this last push to prepare for first grade.  It is so important to continue to nurture and encourage independence in our young learners, they have come so far!  Remembering to follow our classroom procedures when we feel so grown is a challenge but essential to maintaining a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.  Have your learner tell you the five procedures of class.  If they forgot, it is okay.  Here they are for practice:

I feel that these procedures really are lifelong skills that are applicable in a variety of situations.
I cannot take credit for them, they are based on whole brain teaching.
I am so grateful to my families and the children they have entrusted to me.  It has been a beautiful journey.  The best is yet to come.
Warmly,
Mrs. C.
